What Customers Say About Garmin nüvi 205 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator:

A great value. My Nuvi works simply, is fast, and getting lost is much harder to achieve now.

If you want to stick this to the dashboard instead of the window, I found that a "sticky pad" (Amazon carries them) works very well. Not at lot of frills but: starts up quickly, output loud enough, easy to read. In some cases the approaching cross streets are not labeled.

This is good enough. Do not bother with the wide screen. Great little unit for the price. It has all the features i need.

I love the small size as well, it fits well on the windshield with the included mount but does not get in the way, and is still very easy to read.Updating your maps online seems easy enough, I was able to connect to my computer with a standard mini-usb cable (not included) and load the website quickly. It is incredibly easy to use, very quick to acquire a signal, immediate re-calculation, and accurate placement and position updates. I am very satisfied with my purchase. In addition to the map, during your drive it will display your current speed, the local speed limit (most of the time), distance to destination, ETA, and your next turn and which direction it will be.

In my research I've found Tomtom, Magellan, and Garmin all share similarly high reviews depending on the product. If you are looking for a low price GPS for casual use, and can live without bluetooth, spoken street names, and multi point routing (you can have 1 destination + 1 extra stop at once) then the nuvi 205 is perfect, and a great price. When researching a new GPS, you have to concentrate on what features you want, and then pay attention to how the unit functions as a whole. The maps will occasionally be wrong with any unit, and locals will likely disagree with some of the routing in areas they are highly familiar with. This unit does not speak street names, but I find the verbal updates adequate enough. It will guess the city / street names after only a few letters, and it has a large preloaded database of locations to search.

I also downloaded voices and icons directly to the device with no trouble. If there are no other turns prior to your destination, it will display which side of the road you need to be on and mark the spot with a checked flag. You can have it avoid tolls, highways, u-turns, etc. This unit is compatible with the optional traffic receivers, however I have not used any of them. "In one mile, turn left" etc. You cannot edit the main interface, or what it shows you where, I would not make any changes even if I could though. But you aren't buying this to help you navigate your neighborhood.

So far it has been 100% accurate on "side of street" placement. It has multiple settings if you need to adjust any part of the programming or features. Enterting destinations is easy. That said, the Garmin Nuvi 205 is a fantastic entry level unit. gives plenty of notice on what you need to do without continually harassing you.

On one trip it told my husband to turn at an exit on the Interstate that was closed. The Garmin sent me to Route 33 which cuts across Ohio to WV. It did take a couple of hours. He used the next exit and the unit recalculated the route to his destination. The Garmin did save me about 60 miles on a recent trip. This is the 2nd Garmin Nuvi 205 we've purchased.

Since I already had the cord to hook it to the computer that's how I got it recharged. The state route was much shorter and only had a couple of small towns to drive thru. My husband likes his so much he didn't want to share so I purchased a 2nd one for myself. I have always traveled on the Interstates (70 to 77 to 64) on my trips from central Ohio to Virginia. All in all, we are pleased with the Garmin Nuvi 205s. My only complaint is that the unit's battery was completely discharged when I received it.

If I hadn't had that cord I would have had to use the car charger and drive around for awhile until it charged.
